Week 15: (Chapter 2: Literature Review)

OBJECTIVES: 1. To have more information on the current and previous system used in watering plants.
            2. To know the best system that can be apply in watering plants.
            3. To make a literature review on the selected journal regarding plant watering system.

METHODOLOGY: 1. Make a research on the IEEE website to find a suitable journal related with this plant watering system.
             2. List down the important point such as the operation and the flow of the project based on the journal.

RESULTS: The journal are:
  1. “Arduino Based Automatic Plant Watering System”, S. V. Devika, S.k.Khamuruddeen, Sk.Khamurunnisa, Jayanth Thota, Khalesha Shaikh, Associate Professor, Dept. of ECE, HITAM, Hyderabad, India, MSC 2nd Year, Department Of Electronics, HRD, Hyderabad, India. Websitewww.ijarcsse.com
  2.  D. Divani, P.Patil and S.K.Punjabi, "Automated Plant Watering System", 2016 International Conference on Computing of Power, Energy Information and Communication (ICCPEIC), Chennai, 2016, pp. 180-182.
  3. K. Lekjaroen, R. Ponganantayotin, A. Charoenrat, S. Funilkul, U. Supasitthimethee and T. Triyason, "IOT Planting: Watering system using mobile application for the elderly", 2016 Chiang Mai, pp. 1-6.
ANALYSIS & DISCUSSION:

In the first journal, the project is about plant watering system using internet of things (IOT). This journal propose a smart watering system with smart control and intelligent decision making based on accurate real time field data. Other than that, this journal also highlighted the way to monitor the operation of plant watering system via android application in any smartphone. The main body for the prototype contains an Arduino NodeMCU microcontroller. This project are using three sensors which is soil moisture sensor, humidity and temperature sensor and level sensor. The sensors send the data to the Arduino board which will trigger the water pump to turn on and it will supply the water to the plant. The water pump will turn off when the moisture level reached the system halts on its own. Water pump will operates and pump the water to the tank if the water level is low. Lastly, the information about the agriculture field will be send to android application on the smartphone.

In the second journal, this journal is about plant watering system that using PIC16F877A microcontroller based layout which is it controls the water supply and the sector to be irrigated. There are sensors present which is soil moisture sensor and humidity sensor, which are not activated till the water is present on the sector. As soon as the sphere receives dry sensors, it will sense the requirement of water within the area and it send a signal to microcontroller. The microcontroller then delivered the water to that specific field that have water requirement till the sensors is deactivated again. In case, while there are multiple signals for water requirement and the fields will irrigated. This project are presently use a PIC16F877A microcontroller as the primary component to control the sensor and the motor pump.

In the third journal, hobbies that the elderly are fascinated is in planting the flowers, which can make them proud when the trees are growing. Therefore, the IOT planting for elderly that will controlled by using Android application has been proposed in this journal. This application will reduces the space between elderly and technology. The IOT planting was develop for the elderly with arduino technology. The HTTP server is used with the web server for monitoring the plant activity. By using Arduino mobile application, the elderly can control this prototype which they can see the plant via monitoring menu which is a real time communication and between the application and ip-camera. The data will be collected in real time by employing temperature and humidity sensor, and soil moisture sensor and send it to arduino. The arduino will send the data by using HTTP protocol to PHP server every second.

CONCLUSION: The information of the current and previous system used in this plant watering has been gained. The literature review has been reviewed based on the three different journal.
